Conversations with your mother

What do you and your Mom talk about? Is it always as fun as the above conversation? My Mom and I seem to gave the best conversations in the car when we are completly lost and giggly and couldn't care less.
What about you? Are they serious, funny, respectful, light or even annoying? Come on give me the truth! ;)

P.S. the above little monkey is Vince's niece Lise and her Mom Nathalie. They love to gab it up and can often be found together having a chitchat about the serious stuff like hello kitty, who's at the table, the latest playmobile, what everyone ate today and other interesting subjects. Gosh I miss them already!

My new baby

Caught in the act
Isn't she pretty?- The Nikon D5000
My first portrait style photo- The handsome Mr. K.
My first focus photo- Daniele's ornament
My first food photo- Vince's favourite Metz treat

I am the luckiest girl in the world! My whole family on both sides pitched in to get me a digital SLR Nikon D5000 camera for Christmas! Can you believe it? I carry it around like a precious newborn, scared I'm going to drop it on it's head at any moment!
I hope it will elevate my blogging and also become a serious hobby. Vince and I are excited to take photographs on our honeymoon and of our future family! It's funny how something as small as a camera is already creating future memories in our heads!

Thanks so much to our families! We are so excited and happy!

Christmas Eve and France-ward bound!

nutcracker 'Twas the Night Before Christmas nutcracker
by Clement Clarke Moore

'Twas the Night Before Christmas

'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house
not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.
The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,
in hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there.

horse

The children were nestled all snug in their beds,
while visions of sugar plums danced in their heads.
And Mama in her 'kerchief, and I in my cap,
had just settled our brains for a long winter's nap.

wreath

When out on the roof there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from my bed to see what was the matter.
Away to the window I flew like a flash,
tore open the shutter, and threw up the sash.

bells

The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow
gave the lustre of midday to objects below,
when, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
but a miniature sleigh and eight tiny reindeer.

wreath

With a little old driver, so lively and quick,
I knew in a moment it must be St. Nick.
More rapid than eagles, his coursers they came,
and he whistled and shouted and called them by name:

"Now Dasher! Now Dancer!
Now, Prancer and Vixen!
On, Comet! On, Cupid!
On, Donner and Blitzen!
To the top of the porch!
To the top of the wall!
Now dash away! Dash away!
Dash away all!"

horse

As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly,
when they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky
so up to the house-top the coursers they flew,
with the sleigh full of toys, and St. Nicholas too.

bells

And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the roof
the prancing and pawing of each little hoof.
As I drew in my head and was turning around,
down the chimney St. Nicholas came with a bound.

roof

He was dressed all in fur, from his head to his foot,
and his clothes were all tarnished with ashes and soot.
A bundle of toys he had flung on his back,
and he looked like a peddler just opening his pack.

wreath

His eyes--how they twinkled! His dimples, how merry!
His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry!
His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow,
and the beard on his chin was as white as the snow.
The stump of a pipe he held tight in his teeth,
and the smoke it encircled his head like a wreath.
He had a broad face and a little round belly,
that shook when he laughed, like a bowl full of jelly.

bells

He was chubby and plump, a right jolly old elf,
and I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself.
A wink of his eye and a twist of his head
soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread.

horse

He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,
and filled all the stockings, then turned with a jerk.
And laying his finger aside of his nose,
and giving a nod, up the chimney he rose.

sleigh

He sprang to his sleigh, to his team gave a whistle,
And away they all flew like the down of a thistle.
But I heard him exclaim, 'ere he drove out of sight,

"Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good night!"

bells

We are on our way to Metz for Christmas with Vince's family! We are so excited we hardly slept last night tossing and turning thinking about seeing his little niece and nephew! Christmas Eve is the most important day of the holidays for Frenchies, it's when the big family dinner and opening presents happens and we can wait to get there just in time! I hope you and your family and friends have a wonderful cozy Christmas with loves of hugs and kisses and cookies!

Early Christmas at the Dodges!

Proud Grandparents!
Oh that cute little bum!

Little guy loving his parents!
Check out Britt's new haircut! In love!
oh he's sleepy in his cozy warm sweater
Hey, is that a rye and ginger being mixed in the corner?
Happy early Merry Christmas everybody! Mom and Dad and Ryan and Britt and Rocky celebrated last night in Toronto! Britt and Ryan are heading to Florida this Christmas with Britt's family so they had a little early party just the five of them last night!
It looked like so much fun! Ryan and Britt and me and Vince had an agreement of no presents this year but that didn't include my handsome Doggie Nephew! Rocky got a comfy brown agryle sweater from his loving Aunt Sam and Uncle Vincent. He so damn cute I could eat him! What do you think?
I hope you enjoy these pictures and can feel the love streaming out of them the way I can!

Read all about it! Food and Drink is here!

This years cover is a Belgium Air Cake
I won't even attempt to make these but had to include them for their sheer beauty
I hope to make this Risotto for Vince's family Christmas dinner minus the lobster
And these easy apps for the apero hour before dinner
You can't have frenchie apero Christmas Eve without oysters!
Throught out the week I thought about trying out this homey side dish
And rolling up my sleeves covered in flour for these sweet potato gnocchis
Vince's Mom loves soup for dinner and I think this creamy parsnip one is just the ticket
Oh man! Me and Vince are going to try and convince them to bring out the Raclette machine!
And finally this Butter Ripple Rum looks divine! Too bad they don't sell Butter ripple schnapps in France!

Check it out! Mom and Dad brought the Holiday 2010 edition of LCBO's Food and Drink to Paris for me! It's so beautiful! And free! And I am overjoyed! I am reading it slowly and thoroughly. Soaking each page of gorgeousness in and planning my holiday recipes. We will be in Metz this year for a week and half and I hope to help around the house with all the meals. There is just something about getting the Food and Drink Holiday Edition and then choosing which recipes to make. I'm so excited to get my hands dirty and spend hours in the kitchen with these recipes!
What about you? What are your plans for Christmas cooking and baking this year?
